In Matthew 16, the Lord Jesus Christ asked, “who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” His disciples gave many answers. Some said he was John the Baptist. Some said Elijah. Some said Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.

The question that he was asking goes to the very heart of what we, today, call a brand. He was asking, what is the quality, how well understood, how well known was his brand, if you will.

I am told that within today’s culture, young people find the need to have a brand out on the internet and to protect their brand. I find myself thinking, what a burden for a young person to carry.

When my kids were growing up, the only thing that they worried about, relative to brand was the brand of clothing they were wearing and whether or not we would spend the extra money to get the the more expensive brand name clothes.

My wife solved that problem by telling the kids, “look, I’ll pay for the generic part and you use your own money if you want to pay for brand-name upgrade.” It seemed to work, and somehow, my kids never found it all that important to part with their own money to get the brand name.

But, for kids today, it isn’t just a matter of wearing a brand name, but sometimes they have to create their own brand and protect themselves and keep themselves whole on the internet.

I would like to suggest for a younger generation that we allow the scriptures to speak to the question of brand and hopefully take a burden off of our young people.

In Colossians Chapter 2, Paul cautions us about those who would try and convince us that our brand is not good. He says, “beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world and not according to Christ, for in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead, bodily, and you are complete in Him who is the head of all principality and power.”

When we are in Jesus Christ, He is the brand that we wear. We don’t have to try and establish our own brand. We don’t have to try and establish our own identity. We have the identity of Christ and that is enough. That is adequate. It is all we will ever need.

One Body One Blood is going to bring people together in a corporate experience of the Lord’s Table on April 2nd, and I’d like to suggest that for young people, in particular, that they participate in this and see that the brand they have in Christ is the best brand anybody could wear. It’s the most known. It’s the most significant. It’s the only brand with any real substance behind it, so that young people can be walking in the freedom of what God is trying to do in their lives.

Let the young people in your life know about One Body One Blood. Have them register. Have them become a part of this and see that they are wearing a brand in Jesus Christ that is bigger than anything anybody else is putting out there. This event is gathering believers from around the world, demonstrating the power and significance of who God is and that He has covered them with His brand, the Lord Jesus Christ.
